Traditional Chinese Medicine
To complement our science-based, systems-oriented medical services, AT ONE Clinic’s Traditional Chinese Medicine department provides you with an alternative mode of diagnosis and treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient Chinese healing system that has evolved over thousands of years, and continues to evolve and grow in relevance to this day. Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors use herbal medicines and various mind and body practices, such as acupuncture and tai chi, to treat or prevent health problems. AT ONE Clinic uses Traditional Chinese Medicine primarily as a complementary health solution, integrating this discipline with other specializations such as modern cardiology, gynecology, orthopedic and rehabilitation.
Our Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor provides a thorough patient assessment, paying close attention to your history, as well as gathering information from your demeanor, movement, eyes, voice, bodily sounds, and complexion. He will examine your tongue, take your pulse and temperature, and then feel your skin, muscle tone, internal organs (as appropriate), and general vitality, before prescribing a course of treatment to prevent a variety of diseases, and redressing the imbalance of yin and yang in patients. AT ONE Clinic’s Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor is an internationally certified expert at using acupuncture and herbs to help unblock qi and bring the body back into harmony and wellness. Acupuncture is an important component of Traditional Chinese Medicine and one of the best known of its therapies: Small needles are painlessly inserted into meridian lines to restore balance of qi (qi is a vital energy, or “life force” that flows through the body, performing multiple functions in maintaining health), stimulating nerve impulses and other metabolic functions. Other Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies include moxibustion (burning herbs above the skin to apply heat to acupuncture points), herbal medicine, tui na (Chinese therapeutic massage), dietary therapy, and tai chi and qi gong (mind-body practices that combine specific movements or postures, coordinated breathing, and mental focus). Traditional Chinese Medicine is rooted in ancient folk wisdom and dates back more than 2,500 years.
AT ONE Clinic offers these therapies and more, firmly within the framework of the modern medical disciplines and working in collaboration with our resident Ayurveda doctor, dietician, exercise and rehab experts, physiotherapist and life coach. Our goal is nothing less than restoring you to optimal wellness by reinstating the natural harmony in your mind, body and spirit, between two opposing yet complementary forces, called yin and yang. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the human body is but a miniature version of the larger, surrounding universe, and attaining wellness is about redressing the holistic imbalance of energy, and connecting to yourself, others and the universal life force.
